Basics of Suppressors
Suppressors or “Silencers”, are noise suppression devices for firearms. Typically consisting of a ‘can’ affixed to the front of a barrel of a firearm. Internally most designs have baffles used to help limit the sound of a gunshot.
Do suppressors ‘silence’ gunshots like in the movies?
While suppressors are seen in Hollywood to drastically suppress and in some movies completely silence the sound of a gunshot. The truth is some movie productions exaggerate suppressors capabilities. Suppressors DO limit the decibel level of a gunshot, but there are variables that will affect by how much.
