Part Two: Colorado Elk Hunting Season Two

This was our second trip out to Doug’s property near Walden, Co. As you can see by the pictures we had a dramatic change in weather. The previous weekend included short sleeves in the afternoon but now we better dress for winter. Unfortunately Doug could not make it out after the winter storm. Matt and I thought the weather conditions would be beneficial to the hunt. Instead we just ended up cold, hungry and without elk:) We saw their tracks, but the elk won. I am headed back up the mountain in the snow tomorrow near Empire hoping for some better luck.

Colorado Elk Hunting Season Two

October 22-24: Doug, Matt, and I headed up to the Colorado-Wyoming border near Walden, CO. We were anxious to use our 3 bulls tags and bring home some tasty Elk! Doug’s ranch is several thousand acres with flatlands, low mountain passes, and plenty of elk…usually. We were awake each morning waiting for the sun to rise and the elk to wander by but the high temperatures seemed to keep them away. For 2 days we waited to shoot. It was a year for hunting suppressed for Doug and me. I was carrying a Remington 700 LTR in .308 with Badger Bottom metal, a 5 round magazine, Leupold 3.5×10 MK 4, and an Advanced Armament Cyclone Suppressor. Doug was carrying an .308 Armalite AR-10 with a 5 round mag, Leupold 3.5×10 MK 4, and Jet .30 Cal Suppressor. Matt went unsuppressed with a Sako in .300 Short Mag with Nikon scope. Matt saw a cow but we didn’t have a tag for her. But with no elk in sight, all that fire power will have to wait until tomorrow. With a winter storm brewing, the elk are sure to head down so we are headed back out…better luck this time.

The class will cover all the basics of handguns and provide you with the material needed to show training when applying for your Concealed Carry Permit.
